Our metal-backed, PTFE-based (polytetrafluoroethylene) polymer bushing materials have a common structure, consisting of a steel backing bonded to a porous bronze sinter layer. Steel Backing: This layer provides the bushing’s structural integrity. It supports the load and provides mechanical strength.

Porous Bronze Sinter Layer: This layer is typically created by a process known as sintering, where bronze powder is heated to a temperature below its melting point until the particles adhere to each other. The result is a porous structure that can be impregnated with PTFE (or other lubricants). This layer provides good thermal conductivity and high load-bearing capacity.

PTFE-based Polymer Layer: Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is known for its low friction and excellent wear properties. In this composite structure, the PTFE-based layer provides a low friction surface for the moving parts to glide over. It also has a remarkable resistance to a wide variety of chemicals, temperatures, and wear conditions.

The benefit of this composite structure is that it can provide a maintenance-free operation under most conditions, due to the self-lubricating properties of the PTFE layer. The steel and bronze layers ensure high load-bearing capacity and durability.
