Self-lubricated Bearings FAQ

  • The development of bearing materials presents advanced, composite and diversified, among which metal bearing materials include high carbon chromium steel, carburizing steel, stainless steel, heat-resistant steel, tool steel and other materials, and non-metallic materials include engineering plastics, graphite and carbon fiber. The types of bearing materials are gradually rich, and the advantages of their finished products are different.

What Is A Self-lubricating Bearing

A self-lubricating bearing, also known as maintenance-free or greaseless bearings, is a bronze, iron or metal component with impregnated lubricant oil. As a self-lubricating bearings supplier, we impregnate the bearing with liquid lubricant specific to your unique application or operating temperatures. This allows the bearing to provide their own lubrication during operation without requiring the application of grease or oil lubricant.

The Bearing Characteristics Of Metal, Engineering Plastics And Ceramics One By One.

METAL MATERIAL

Short service life and large consumption of lubricating oil during operation.

The biggest advantage of metal bearings is convenient processing, processing cost and price advantage is obvious compared with engineering plastic bearings.Secondly, it has good impact resistance and a variety of metal materials, which is suitable for most of the application needs of conventional bearing equipment.

PEEK

Engineering plastic bearings have the advantages of poor mechanical performance, low speed, low load, high temperature resistance and low upper limit of high temperature.

(1) The finished product has low density, light volume, small starting torque during high-speed operation, and can reduce the energy consumption of rotation. It is suitable for application in the design of modern lightweight structure products.

(2)The preparation method is open mold injection molding method, the production cycle of the finished product is short, fast, low manufacturing cost, and the flexibility of the design of the product is large, can be designed into a more complex structure form, the overall economy is good, easy to large quantities, large-scale production, can improve production efficiency, save manufacturing costs.

(3) Engineering plastic bearings themselves have excellent self-lubrication, can meet the engineering state that can not use lubricating oil (such as: food, packaging, medical machinery, etc.), product maintenance cost is low.

(4) It has the characteristics of wear-resisting, low friction and anti-bite. It can add wear-resisting elements according to the need of the cost, reduce the friction coefficient to a lower level, and thus reduce the friction heat to maintain better performance.

(5)Based on its own material characteristics, engineering plastic bearings have the use performance of shock mitigation and vibration reduction, and can greatly reduce the occurrence of operating noise in operation, and can be applied to special environments.

(6) With stable high heat resistance and stable specifications, temperature difference interval is generally in -250℃~+320℃, can meet the operating temperature of most engineering conditions.

(7)The preparation of engineering plastic bearings has high flexibility, and different raw materials can be selected according to different performance requirements to enhance toughness. Thus, the toughness can be increased to enhance the impact resistance and fracture resistance of the product. Similarly, the stiffness can also be increased to improve the hardness standard.

Ceramic bearing

The processing method of preparing ceramic bearings is high and the cost is high, which hinders the popularization of ceramic bearings to a great extent.

(1) Ceramic materials have strong corrosion resistance, so ceramic bearings are almost not afraid of corrosion, and can work in special harsh environments full of corrosive media.

(2) Because the density of ceramic rolling ball is lower than that of steel on ceramic rolling bearing, the weight is lighter, and the centrifugal action of outer ring can be reduced by 40% when rotating, so that the service life of the product can be greatly extended.

(3) Ceramic materials are less affected by thermal expansion and cold contraction than metals. Reasonable arrangement of the clearance between each ceramic bearing can be applied to the bearing in the environment with large temperature difference fluctuations.

(4)The fatigue life of the all-ceramic bearing is 10~50 times longer than that of the all-steel bearing, and the life of the mixed ceramic bearing is about 3~5 times longer than that of the all-steel bearing. The service life of the ceramic bearing is much higher than that of the metal bearing.

(5)The wear resistance and elastic modulus of ceramic bearings are higher than those of metal bearings, and the friction coefficient is low. Therefore, the lubrication performance of ceramic bearings with lubricating oil added in the case of thinness or lack of oil is not lower than that of traditional lubricants commonly used in traditional steel bearings.

Self-Lubricating Dry Running Sleeve Bearing

How Does A Self-Lubricating Bearing Work?

Self-lubricating bearings work by having lubricant impregnated within the sliding layer of the bearing. This lubricant can either be liquid (oil) or solid (graphite, MoS2, lead) based on the requirements of the application (such as operating temperature). As the bearing operates, the lubricant is released through pores in the sliding layer, lubricating the bearing surface. The lubricant is uniformly dispersed throughout the sliding layer and thus there is no reduction in low friction bearing performance, even if the sliding layer becomes worn. A “running-in” surface is also usually included at the top of the sliding layer to provide low friction bearing performance at start up before the impregnated lubricant reaches the bearing surface.

How to Choose the Self lubricating bearing oil?2021-02-05T06:44:33+00:00

Self-lubricated Bearings FAQ

  • Oil lubrication is recommended for many applications, as different supply methods can be adapted to suit different operating conditions and the machine’s design. When selecting the most appropriate oil lubrication method for a bearing arrangement, the  application requirements should be considered.

How Do Self Lubricated Bearings Work?

Self-lubricated bearings ceaselessly counteract sliding element friction. That’s because, unlike their high-maintenance counterparts, this self-sufficient bearing type doesn’t require a supplementary oil feed system. Instead, the all-important lubricant, the oily stuff that produces a thin film around the bearing parts, is part of the machine component. Granted, the advantages of this friction-diminishing arrangement are many.

Oil lubrication method for a bearing arrangement, the following application requirements should be considered:

1.Required quantity and viscosity of the oil
2.Speed and hydrodynamic frictional losses
3.Permissible bearing temperature

How to choose the lubricating oil from the bearing, blind choice of lubricating oil: lubricating oil plays the role of lubrication, cooling, cleaning and sealing. The quality of lubricating oil is directly related to the service life of the engine. Oil blackening is oil deterioration: engine oil is working in a more demanding high temperature conditions, easy to oxidize deterioration, produce acidic substances and superposition into polymer sediments, so as to destroy the lubrication. Diesel car oil: gasoline engine oil and diesel engine oil. Although gasoline engines and diesel engines work under the same conditions of high temperature, high pressure, high speed and high load, they are still quite different.

Lubricating oils

To lubricate super-precision bearings, high quality lubricating oils without EP additives are generally recommended. The requisite viscosity of the oil can be determined following the recommendations in Lubrication conditions – the viscosity ratio κ, and is essentially a function of bearing size, speed and operating temperature.

With oil-air lubrication systems, many oil types are suitable. Oils with a viscosity of 40 to 100 mm2/s at 40 °C (105 °F) are typically used as are oils with EP additives which are preferable, especially for roller bearings. Oils with a viscosity of 10 to 15 mm2/s at 40 °C (105 °F) are typically used for oil jet lubrication, whereas oil mist lubrication systems typically use oils with a viscosity of 32 mm2/s at 40 °C (105 °F).

The intervals at which the oil should be changed when using the oil bath, circulating oil and oil jet methods, depend mainly on the operating conditions and the quantity of oil involved. When oil drop, oil mist or oil-air lubrication is used, the lubricant is “lost” and is therefore supplied to the bearings only once.

Oil cleanliness

Oil cleanliness, which affects bearing service life and performance, requires an effective sealing system. Even with effective seals, however, the condition of the oil should be monitored on a regular basis. This is particularly true for oil re-circulation systems where the ingress of coolants, cutting oils, and other liquid contaminants can alter the lubricating properties of the oil.

Oil cleanliness requirements can be described by the number of particles per millilitre of oil for different particle sizes. ISO 4406 provides a coding system for the level of solid contaminants. The oil cleanliness requirements for high-precision applications like electro-spindles go beyond this coding. The maximum particle size should not exceed 5 μm. The acceptable contamination levels can be specified as an extrapolation of the contamination codes to

How to choose the correct bearing lubrication mode

To make a reasonable lubrication of bearings, we must comprehensively consider various factors such as the mechanical structure, the position of bearing installation, the weight of bearing load and the specific production environment. In order to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the bearing, the bearing must be lubricated in order to minimize friction and wear during the work of the bearing and avoid the formation of pitting corrosion on the bearing surface and resulting in failure.Normal lubrication can significantly improve the fatigue life, friction, wear, temperature and vibration of rolling bearings.

Analysis of the causes of bearing damage

about 40% of bearing damage is related to poor lubrication. The content of lubrication design of rolling bearing mainly includes: the determination of reasonable lubrication method, the correct selection of lubricant, the quantitative calculation of lubricant dosage and the determination of oil change period.Rolling bearing lubrication can generally be divided into three categories: oil lubrication, grease lubrication and solid lubrication according to the type of lubricant used.

Self-lubricated Bearings FAQ

  • As defined by Machine Design, bearing service life is, “The life of a bearing under actual operating conditions before it fails or needs to be replaced.”
Simple enough. But which factors contribute to how long you can expect your bearing to last in your “typical” environment?

Calculation of service life | Basic Bearing Knowledge

Calculating life expectancy determines the bearing solution with consideration of bearing material fatigue under defined operating.Service life is the life of a bearing under actual operating conditions before it fails … to applied dynamic and static loads as they impact service life and reliability.

How long is the service life of oilless plain bearing & self-lubricating bronze bushings?

1) Lubrication is critical

Without good lubrication levels (whether manually-greased rolling element bearings, or self-lubricated composites), bearing friction will build. Which means heat will build, and so, too, the possibility of bearing overheating and failure. Environmental factors like dust and contamination can also have a negative impact on lubrication (causing a lapping compound to form around the hardware), which will result in a shorter bearing service life. Good lubrication is very important.

2) Bearing load is a key contributor

Knowing the full load potential of an application is key to determining bearing lifetime. This is especially true with cantilevered and uneven loads (as in construction equipment lifting applications). Best practice is to “overdesign” a bearing by overestimating the highest load it may encounter in order to leave some room for additional weight.

3) Operating temperatures (not too hot!)

Matching the right material formula to the anticipated temperature, as we recently explored, Bearing Temperatures and Plastic Composites) Temperatures impact press fits and the thermal expansion, which, in turn, impact the tolerance between the shaft and the ID of the bearing. These all contribute to the total service lifetime of the bearing.

4) Speeds are important, too

Bearings that are improperly matched to the SPM (or speed for minute) of the rotary application will wear more quickly and have a detrimental impact on service life. Good bearing alignment is also important.

While the above are the primary contributors to how long you can expect a bearing to last, it’s important to also consider additional factors like material storage. Some materials, like etched-PTFE Rulon, require a UV-blocking bag or else the etching will degrade in standard warehouse conditions. For best results and longer service, bearing materials must be stored and handled properly. Read more about bearing wear.

Ultimately, the better a bearing is matched to your application environment, the longer it will last. We can help guide you to the right material!

Bushings and Plain Bearings – Load Capacity and Service Life …

Answer: because the bushing bearings service life of any sliding bearing is affected by the actual working conditions, such as the working load, speed, temperature and comprehensive environmental factors; Therefore, it is impossible for any dry bearing manufacturer to calculate the accurate service life before the actual use verification, and it can only estimate the service life of the self-lubricating bushing bearing under similar cases based on the existing use cases.

What is the difference between oilless bushes and sliding bearings?2021-02-02T07:11:50+00:00

Self-lubricated Bearings FAQ

  • self lubricated bearing oilless bushes, also called sleeve bearings, belongs to a kind of sliding bearing. Wall thickness, size, dimensional drawing, slide over smooth rods and provide an extremely low friction motion which minimizes power consumption, noise, and wear on parts. Bushings look like plain metal tubes, but they are actually fairly sophisticated parts.application.Bushings are typically made from a bronze powder. The powder is fused together such that tiny pours are present in the metal. The bushings are then impregnated with oil (about 20% oil by volume). Then, as the bushing contacts a shaft, the oil is drawn to the surface of the bushing via capillary action so that the bushing constantly deposits a thin film of lubricating oil onto the shaft. In other words, bronze bushings are self-lubricating.

Bushings vs. Bearings

Continuing with the Linear Motion theme, up next, bushings, bearings and other linear mechanisms are examined.  Beginning with an explanation of bushings versus bearings.

Oilless Bushing vs Sliding Bearing – Which Do You Choose?

The bushing is used in the gear shaft or bearing. The primary role is to play a fixed water lubrication bushing fixing and positioning role. For example, the gear shaft is needed in the reducer equipment, which is used to fix the center positioning of the shaft and the bearing to prevent it from shifting due to the sensation during operation. The bushing acts as a sliding bearing. In order to save the copper-based steel ball retainer data, the wall thickness of the bushing is planned according to the axial load required by the bearing.Cast copper and bearing alloy are usually used as raw materials. The sleeve can be divided into openings and non-openings, which should be based on the needs of the structure.Usually the sleeve cannot accept axial load, or can only accept small axial load or thrust bearing and the shaft is usually round.

Shaft sleeve in some rotational speed is low, high radial load and space request higher local (such as the camshaft) with no flattering to block instead of a rolling bearing (original shaft sleeve is a kind of sliding bearing), data request low hardness and wear resistance, scraping to grind and shaft sleeve inner hole, can reach higher accuracy and cooperation on the inner wall is bound to have a smooth oil tank, smooth is very important of shaft sleeve, a number of grinding shaft and shaft sleeve will soon be invalid, when it introduced equipment scraping collar inner hole wall, so can leave many small pits, strengthen smooth function.

Bushing is used outside of mechanical parts to achieve sealing, wear and maintenance, etc.Bushing is widely used in many parts in the industrial field, such as valves, bearings and other parts will use bushing. The flexibility of bushing is relatively high, and it can play a lot of roles. In general, bushing is a kind of component for the maintenance of equipment. The use of bushing can reduce equipment wear, vibration and noise, and has the effect of corrosion prevention. The use of bushing can also facilitate the repair of mechanical equipment, simplify the construction of equipment and manufacturing technology. The role played by bushings in practical work has much to do with the context and intent of its application. In valve services, bushings are used by the device to trap the stem inside the bonnet to reduce valve leakage and to achieve sealing. In the field of bearing application, the use of bushing can reduce the wear between bearing and shaft seat, and avoid the increase of the gap between shaft and hole.

Self-Lubricating Dry Running Sleeve Bearing

A bushing is one classification of the overall category of bearings.

A bushing is a thin tube or sleeve that allows relative motion by sliding (our type), as compared to rolling. A bushing might also be called a sleeve bearing. However, the term sleeve bushing would be redundant. Thus, a bushing is a bearing, but a bearing is not necessarily a bushing type.

A bearing is the general term for something that allows relative motion between two components, surfaces, etc.

About Oilless Bushing

Self-lubrication is the first major advantage of using bushings over sliding bearings. Another major benefit is cost. Bronze bushings cost between six and ten times less than sliding bearings. The third major benefit to bushings is that they are generally quieter than sliding bearings. Fourth, bushings can be used on either hardened or non-hardened shafts, whereas linear sliding bearings can only be used on the more expensive hardened shafts. Finally, bushings generally require less maintenance than linear sliding bearings.

Sliding Bearings have a couple of downsides as well. First, bushings can have what is commonly referred to as the “stick and slip” problem. Bronze bushings, unlike sliding bearings, need to overcome static friction forces before moving. Especially if the linear motion system is worn, or not properly aligned, this means the bushings can move in a kind of jerky, uneven movement. Second, bushings, especially cheap ones, can have wider tolerances making for a slightly worse fit on the smooth rods.

About Sliding Bearing

General plain bearings in the work before the need to add lubricating oil, grease and other lubricants, graphite, MoS2 coating , so as to form a lubricating film on the friction surface and play an effective role of lubrication, and oilless bushes bearings made of self-lubricating materials or pre-filled with lubricant sealed up can be used for a long time, no need to add lubricant in the process of work.

 Bearings And  Bushings

Bearings and bushings are machinery components that consist on a support, guide, or locating piece for a rotating oscillating, or sliding mechanical part. Their main function is improve efficiency, accuracy, service intervals, reliability and speed of operation thereby reducing costs of purchasing and operating machinery. These components depending of his design can resist thrust loading, radial loading, or a combination of both.

The difference between friction bearings and roller bearings

Frictional bearing: also called bushing, plain bearings or sleeve bearings. It’s a type of bearing where the sliding motion occurs between the moving surfaces. Due to the friction between the bushing and the shaft can appear problem of overheat or wear. For this reason lubrication of these parts is necessary and very important for service life and performance of the bushing.

Bushings can be categorized into three groups depending of his lubrication system:

Class I. Are bearings that require the application of a lubricant from an external source (oil, grease, etc.).
Class II. This type of bearings contain a lubricant within the walls of the bearing (bronze, graphite, etc.). Typically these bearings require an outside lubricant to achieve maximum performance.
Class III. Bearings made of materials that are the lubricant. These bearings are typically considered “self-lubricating” and can run without an external lubricant. Typical lubricants for this class are PTFE, graphite, etc.

plugged graphite bearings
Rolling bearing: is a bearing that uses rolling elements (balls or rollers) to maintain the separation between the moving parts. This mechanism permit reduce friction and heat generation, permitting also operate at higher speeds than frictional bearings.
Ball bearing: this bearing employs steel balls to reduce friction between outer and inner ring. The three principal types are: deep groove ball bearing, thrust ball bearing and angular contact ball bearing.
Deep groove ball bearing: It is the most common type of bearing. Thanks to his design this bearing can endure low to medium radial loads and little axial loads in both dimensions. Also require low maintenance and are suitable for high speeds. (ISO 15, ISO 8443)
Thrust ball bearing: are designed to carry heavy axial loads, but they can’t hold any radial load. Furthermore exist single direction thrust ball bearing that can support loads in only one direction and double direction thrust ball bearing that can support loads that can support loads in both shaft directions. (ISO 20516).
Angular contact ball bearing: These bearings are designed to support significant axial loads combined with radial loads and high speeds. ISO 15 and ISO 12044

Cylindrical: this type of bearing presents cylindrical rollers that are in linear contact with the raceways. It permits work with higher radial loads than ball bearings and better resistance to shocks and vibrations and is also suitable for high speeds. Exist different types designated as NU, NJ, NUP, N, NF, NNU, NN, etc. The standard boundary dimensions most used are indicated in ISO 15.

Spherical: the special design of this bearings permit the self-alignment between shaft and housing. This design consist on a sphered raceway for the outer ring and a double row with two raceways for the inner ring. This type of bearing could be designed to mount ball, cylindrical, tapered or special rollers. The most spherical roller bearings are suitable for low to medium radial load and low axial loads. Standard ISO 15。

Tapered roller: this bearing has frustoconical rollers that provides the capability of support high combined loads in one direction of each. The axial load capacity depends directly of contact angle. Standard: ISO 355
Needle roller: are bearings similar to cylindrical roller bearings, but in this case rollers are cylinders that have a small diameter relative to their length. Their offer a compact solution for high load capacity. (ISO 3030, ISO 3245, ISO 1206)

Linear bearing: cost-effective linear guiding systems for a wide variety of applications such as electronic equipment, punching machines, printers, etc. Usually are used for low loadings and high precision of movement. (ISO 10285, ISO 12090, ISO 13012).

Each bearing has its dimensions in line with national standards (except for non-BAI standards). In most cases, the shaft diameter (or bearing inner diameter) is based on the mechanical design or other design limitations. So the choice of bearing type and size is determined according to the inner diameter of the bearing. Therefore, the main size table of standard bearings is compiled according to the national standard inner diameter size.

The size of the standard bearing form is various, is best when mechanical device design with a standard bearing (this relates to whether the bearing is easy to purchase, this design cost and purchasing time even after the repair replacement is important) bearing load: exerting on the bearing load, the nature, size, direction is changeable.Generally, the rated base load is shown on the size table. But axial load and radial load, etc., are also important factors in choosing the right bearing. When the size of ball roller bearings and needle roller bearings is equivalent, ball roller bearings usually have higher load capacity and bear greater vibration and impact load.

Second, according to the design requirements, determine the required speed of the bearing

The design speed is determined according to bearing type, size, precision, cage type, load, lubrication mode, and cooling mode, etc.The national standard bearing table lists the allowable speed of standard precision bearings under oil lubrication and grease lubrication.Usually, deep groove ball bearings, self-aligning ball bearings and cylindrical roller bearings are suitable for high speed operation.

Third, according to the design requirements, determine the grade of bearings required

Bearing dimensional accuracy and rotation accuracy are designed in accordance with national standards. For machinery requiring high precision and high speed operation, it is recommended to use P5 or above precision bearings, deep groove ball bearings, centripetal thrust ball bearings or cylindrical roller bearings are suitable for machinery with high precision operation.Rigid, when the rolling body of the bearing and the contact surface of the raceway are pressed, elastic deformation will be produced. In some machines it is necessary to minimize elastic deformation.Roller bearings produce smaller elastic shape variables than ball bearings.

Four, In some cases, bearings should be preloaded to increase rigidity.

This program is usually used in deep groove ball bearings, centripetal thrust ball bearings and tapered roller bearings inner and outer ring bias, shaft bending, shaft or bearing box tolerance change, matching error will lead to inner and outer ring eccentricity. In order to prevent the eccentric Angle is too large, automatic self-aligning ball bearings, automatic self-aligning roller bearings, or self-aligning bearing pedicle is the better choice.Voice frequency and torsion, rolling bearings are manufactured according to high precision standards, so the voice and torque is small.Deep groove ball bearings and cylindrical roller bearings are suitable for the occasions with special requirements of low noise and low torque.

Installation and disassembly. Frequent disassembly and disassembly are required in some applications to ensure regular inspection and maintenance.Bearings with inner and outer rings can be mounted separately, such as cylindrical bearings, needle roller bearings, and tapered bearings, are suitable for this occasion. With the help of the bushings, the installation procedure is also simplified for automatic self-aligning ball bearings and automatic self-aligning roller bearings with tapered holes.

What is the Difference Between Bushing & Bearing?2021-02-04T05:15:07+00:00

Self-lubricated Bearings FAQ

  • There is a difference between bearing and bushing sleeve, bushing sleeve is only a kind of sliding bearing. The main function of the bearing is to support the mechanical rotating body, reduce its friction coefficient in the process of motion, and ensure its rotation accuracy. The shaft bushing sleeve is a cylindrical bushes mechanical part that is mounted on a rotating shaft and is an integral part of a plain bearing bushes. The bushing sleeve is set on the shaft, can protect the shaft, wear after the replacement of the bushing sleeve can avoid direct wear of the shaft, reduce the maintenance cost; The bearing is the rotating body that supports the shaft…”

The similarity of sleeve and bearing

The similarity of sleeve and bearing is that both bear the load of the shaft, the difference is that the sleeve is the overall structure, rotation is the relative movement between the shaft and sleeve; The bearing is of split type, and the relative movement of the inner and outer rings of the bearing itself is when it rotates.

What is a Bushing?

Bushings, (sometimes called plain bearings, plain bushings, or sleeve bearings) reduce friction between two surfaces sliding against each other.

Bushings are akin to thin tubes most commonly used for machinery with rotating or sliding shafts to improve efficiency and reduce vibration and noise. Bushings can be used for drilling operations in drill jigs, hydraulic external gear pumps and motors. Other common types of bushings are bushings for cars, trucks & SUVs.

The difference between bearings vs. bushings is that a bushing is a type of bearing. While the term bearing is a general term for something that allows motion between two components, bushings are specific pieces of equipment. Bushings, unlike rolling-element bearings, are designed as a single part.

What is a Slide Bearing?

The slide bearing assembly consists of structural pads, a PTFE sliding surface (or other low-friction material) and slide bearing plates. Subtypes of slide bearings include linear ball bearings and linear roller bearings. Slide bearings may also be referred to as linear bearings, guide bearings, or linear slide bearings.

They may be used in applications such as construction (expansion supports for bridges) and precision tooling.

A bushing is one category of plain bearings.

A bushing is a thin walled bearing metal steel backed alloy layer with lubricated or bronze bushing sleeve that allows relative motion by sliding bearings, as compared to rolling. A bushing might also be called a sleeve bearing. However, the term sleeve bushing would be redundant. Thus, a bushing is a plain bearing, but a bearing is not necessarily a bushing type.

A bearing is the general term for something that allows relative motion between two components, surfaces, etc.

1.Metal Material

Bearing alloys, bronze, aluminum-based alloys, zinc-based alloys, etc., are called metal materials.Among them, bearing alloy is also known as white alloy, mainly lead, tin, antimony or other metal alloy, it can be in heavy load, high speed and other circumstances, the strength is small. The reason is because of its characteristics, good wear resistance, high plasticity, good running performance, good thermal conductivity and anti-glue and good adsorption with oil. However, because it is more expensive, so, when used, must be poured on bronze, steel belt or cast iron bearing, forming a thinner coating.

  • Bearing alloy (commonly known as Babbitt or white alloy)

Bearing alloy is an alloy of tin, lead, antimony and copper. It takes tin or lead as matrix and contains hard grains of antimony and tin (Sb-Sn) and copper and tin (Cu-Sn).Hard grains act as wear resistance, while soft matrix increases the plasticity of the material.Bearing alloy elastic modulus and elastic limit are very low, in all bearing materials, it has the best embeddedness and friction compliance, and is easy to run in with the journal, and is not easy to bite and stick with the journal. But the strength of bearing alloy is very low, can not be made separately bearing bush, can only be attached to the bronze, steel or cast iron bearing bush for bearing lining.Bearing alloy is suitable for heavy duty, medium and high speed occasions, the price is more expensive.

  • Copper alloy

Copper alloy has higher strength, better friction reduction and wear resistance.Bronze has better properties than brass and is the most commonly used material. There are several kinds of bronze, such as tin bronze, lead bronze and aluminum bronze, among which tin bronze has the best antifriction and is widely used. But tin bronze has higher hardness than bearing alloy, poor running-in and embeddedness, and is suitable for heavy duty and medium speed occasions.Lead bronze has strong adhesion resistance and is suitable for high speed and heavy load bearings.Aluminum bronze has high strength and hardness, poor adhesion resistance, and is suitable for low speed and heavy duty bearings.

  • Aluminum alloy

The aluminum base bearing alloy has good corrosion resistance, high fatigue strength and good friction performance. These qualities have enabled aluminum-based alloys to replace more expensive bearing alloys and bronzes in some areas.Aluminum base alloy can be made into single metal parts (such as sleeve, bearing, etc.), but also can be made into bimetal parts, bimetal bearing bush with aluminum base alloy as the bearing lining, with steel as the backing.

  • Grey cast iron and wear resistant cast iron

Ordinary gray iron or wear-resistant gray cast iron with alloy components such as nickel, chromium and titanium, or ductile cast iron, can be used as bearing materials. The flake or spherical graphite in this kind of material is covered on the surface of the material, can form a layer of graphite layer for lubrication, so it has a certain friction reduction and wear resistance. In addition, graphite can absorb hydrocarbons, help to improve the boundary lubrication performance, so the use of gray cast iron as bearing material, should add lubricating oil.Due to the cast iron brittle, poor running-in, it is only suitable for light load, low speed and no impact load occasions.

2.Nonmetallic Material

The application in nonmetallic material is all sorts of plastic at most (polymer material), wait like phenolic resin, nylon, polytetrafluoroethylene.Polymer characteristics are: with many chemical substances do not react, corrosion resistance is particularly strong; It has a certain self-lubrication, can work under no lubrication conditions, and has a certain lubrication ability under high temperature conditions;Good embeddedness;Friction reduction and wear resistance are better.

When choosing polymer as bearing material, we must pay attention to the following problems: because the heat conduction capacity of polymer is only a few percent of steel, therefore, we must consider the dissipation of friction heat, which strictly limits the working speed and pressure value of polymer bearings. And because the linear expansion coefficient of polymer is much larger than that of steel, therefore, the clearance between polymer bearings and steel journal should be larger than that of metal bearings. In addition, polymer materials have low strength and yield limits, so they can withstand limited loads during assembly and operation.Because of the creep phenomenon of polymer material at room temperature, it is not suitable to make bearings with strict clearance requirements.

Carbon-graphite can be used as bearing material in bad environment, in which the more graphite content, the softer the material, the smaller the friction coefficient.Metal, polytetrafluoroethylene or molybdenum disulfide components can be added to the carbon-graphite material, and liquid lubricants can also be impregnated.Carbon-graphite bearings have self-moistening properties, and their self-moistening and antifriction properties depend on the amount of water vapor adsorbed.Carbon-graphite has affinity with lubricants containing hydrocarbons, and the addition of lubricants helps to improve its boundary lubrication performance. In addition, it can also be used as water-lubricated bearing materials.

Rubber is mainly used as a lubricant with water and the environment is dirty.

Wood has a porous structure and its properties can be improved by fillers. The filling polymer can improve the dimensional stability, reduce the moisture absorption and enhance the strength of wood.Bearings made of wood can work in extremely dusty conditions.

3.Porous Metallic Materials

This is a bearing material made of different metal powders by pressing and sintering. The material is porous, with pores accounting for about 10 to 35 percent of volume. Before use, the bearing bush is impregnated in hot oil for several hours, so that the pores are full of lubricating oil, so the bearing made of this material is usually called oil-bearing.

It is self-lubricating.When working, due to the suction effect of the rotation of the journal and the expansion of the oil when the bearing is heated, the oil enters the friction surface for lubrication; When not working, because of the capillary action, the oil will be sucked back to the inner bearing, so for a long time, even without lubricating oil can still work very well.If regular oil supply, the use effect is better. However, due to its low toughness, it is suitable for stable non-impact load and medium and low speed.Commonly used are porous iron and porous bronze.Porous iron is commonly used to make mill bushing, machine tool oil pump bushing, internal combustion engine CAM bushing, etc.more

Porous bronze is commonly used to make bearings for record players, electric fans, textile machinery and automobile generators. Our country already has the factory that manufactures the oil bearing specially, may choose according to the design manual when necessary.

Powder metallurgy material is porous metal is a kind of powder material, it has porous organization, if it is immersed in lubricating oil, so that the micro-hole is filled with lubricating oil, into an oil-bearing, with self-lubricating performance.Porous metal materials have low toughness and are only suitable for stable no impact load and medium to low speed conditions.

Bearing size inspection

Rolled products production system determines the life of the seam establishing, make product in unfastened circumstance now not desirable roundness, and collar diameter and hole for surplus, among shaft sleeve to maximize to adapt to the form of hollow, consequently can not be without delay measured below loose state product diameter and must use a unique measuring tool and gadget a good way to detect; ISO3547 well known component 2 specifies the tolerance check for rolled up merchandise, such as:
Test approach A: out of doors diameter of huff gauge;
• inspection technique B: test outdoor diameter with forestall-gauge;
• test method C: take a look at the internal diameter with forestall gauge;
• inspection approach D: the measuring ruler shall be used to look into the outer diameter of large-sized merchandise and the wall thickness inspection approach shall be used in preference to the inspection method c. The wall thickness inspection technique and the inspection approach C shall now not be used on the equal time.

Outer diameter check technique

Take a look at method (iso3547-2)
The upper and lower huff gauge including the right view is used to check out the outer diameter. At some point of the inspection, the open seam of the product faces as much as the huff gauge to apply the inspection load Fch, which enables the rolled axle sleeve to be placed within the inspection mold in a way that meets the necessities. Within the take a look at, the outer diameter of the roll sleeve will decrease because of elastic deformation, however it’s going to no longer produce permanent deformation. The outer diameter of the product can be calculated via checking the change inside the distance between the dies, delta z.
Check technique (iso3547-2)
ring gauges are adopted for inspection, particularly the thru gauge and the forestall gauge. The shaft sleeve can be pushed into and through the through gauge with the maximum pressure of 250N by hand. Not able to go into and skip the stop below the same situations. In some instances, the check accuracy may be affected, as an example, the axle sleeve isn’t always round or the force of the closed open seam itself has handed 250N. Presently, it’s miles endorsed to undertake the test method A or the check technique combining the dimension of compression pressure and wall thickness.
Test approach (iso3547-2)
Adopt the correct measuring ruler to degree the outer diameter, usually for the large specification of shaft sleeve outer diameter detection.

Diameter test technique

Test technique
Take a look at the internal diameter of the bushing after urgent the bushing into the reference ring gauge. In attention of sensible use, it’s far commonly recommended to adopt the test of via and prevent-plug gauge. At the moment, the via end plug gauge can skip via the inner hole of the axle sleeve when the most thrust of the hand isn’t any more than 250N, and the forestall plug gauge have to now not pass via the internal hole of the axle sleeve underneath the equal occasions. When the bushing is pressed into the reference ring gauge, the outer diameter of the bushing may cause everlasting deformation and can not be used commonly.

Test approach for thrust washer

In addition to the thickness tolerance, the parallelism of the gasket is equally important to the lifestyles of the gasket and the damage. We use a extra powerful take a look at approach to locate the parallelism of the gasket. Of route the parallel block must be larger than the gasket itself.

Wall thickness detection approach

As an opportunity to test approach C, the 2 methods can not be used at the equal time. The wall thickness is measured inside the axial course according to the axle sleeve size.

Viiplus Composite Bearing Design & Benefits

Self lubricating composite Bearings made of ptfe/pom combined the high load capacity and dimensional rigidity of lubricated metallic bearings with the performance and economic benefits of self-lubrication.

The structure of the self lubricating composite bearings consists of a rigid steel or corrosion-resistant bronze backing (DU-B), which provides mechanical strength, while a porous sintered bronze interlayer impregnated with a homogeneous mixture of PTFE and lead provides low friction and high wear resistance.

The low friction of the DU bearings reduces power losses for improved energy efficiency, while the wear-resistant bronze layer provides extended service life. Being self-lubricating, the bearings require little to no maintenance. However they can also be used with lubricant to prevent potential shaft/bearing seizure under boundary conditions.

The compact, lightweight design and thin-wall construction of the DU bearings provide space and weight savings, and because there are no moving parts or metal-to-metal contact the bearings are quieter. In addition, assembly can be done quickly and easily without costly mounting tools.

DX Self  lubricating  composite bearings

The key to the superior performance capabilities of DX bearings is their unique construction incorporating a highly effective grease retention system.

The bearings exhibit extremely low friction during operation and are highly resistant to wear. By taking advantage of the low friction and longer service life provided by DX bearings, designers now have the
opportunity to improve the performance of their product while increasing its effective operating life. The designer can also be assured that frequency of maintenance is minimized due to the greatly extended
lubrication cycle of DX bearings.

DX is a steel-backed material from which bearings, thrust washers, and other shapes can be made. The DX material can be sized in place by boring, reaming, etc. This ability to resize the DX is of particular value in the control of initial starting clearance and the correction of misalignment. The wall thickness of DX bearings is held to close limits so that machining should be unnecessary for most applications. DX is recommended for conditions of intermittent operation or boundary lubrication, and for situations in which lubricant cannot be supplied continuously or repeatedly. The time during which a DX bearing will operate without further lubrication will depend on operating conditions.

A unique, composite bearing material

DX is a composite strip material made up of three layers: steel, porous bronze, and acetal resin polymer:
1. Steel backing (Full depth not shown.) This steel backing is the key to the exceptional strength; thin,
compact design; excellent heat dissipation; and dimensional and structural rigidity of DX bearings. This rugged, steel backing also provides a good interference fit in metallic housings throughout the temperature range for the bearing.
2. Porous bronze innerstructure
This comprises a nominal 0.010 inch (0.25 mm) layer of carefully sized, bearing quality bronze powder sintered onto the steel backing. This porous bronze innerlayer is impregnated with the acetal resin and is securely sintered to the steel. The bronze also serves as an effective heat conductive path which minimizes undue temperature rise at the bearing surface and provides dimensional stability.

Applicable to low-speed heavy load, intermittent operation, and rolling conditions such as unable to fuel or do not allow refueling occasions;
Simplify oil supply design to reduce repair and maintenance costs and time;
Good wear resistance, low friction coefficient, extend the service life of the product;

  • High performance and environmentally safe

The special characteristics of the metal/polymer composite plain bearings are due to the combination of plastic and metal. This material combination allows low-wear sliding characteristics together with high load carrying capacity and thermal conductivity. The static load carrying capacity reaches values of up to 250 N/mm2. All metal/polymer composite plain bearings are free from lead in accordance with the End of Life Vehicles Directive, Directive 2000/53/EC as well as the Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS-II) for the restriction of hazardous substances. They are thus environmentally safe

  • Maintenance-free

The maintenance-free plain bearing material E40 is, due to the dry lubricant PTFE, intended for dry running. These bearings are thus particularly suitable where the bearing position must be maintenance-free, there is a risk of lubricant starvation or where lubricant is unacceptable or undesirable. The material E40 can be used not only for rotary and oscillating motion but also for short stroke linear motion. Typical areas of application can be found, for example, in fluid technology, in sports gear, in medical or electrical equipment as well as in automotive engineering.

  • Low-maintenance

The low-maintenance plain bearing material E50 is a low-wear material with good damping characteristics and long relubrication intervals. The bearings have a sliding layer made from polyoxymethylene POM. E50 can be used for rotary and oscillating motion and is recommended for long stroke linear motion. It is only slightly sensitive to edge loads and is insensitive to shocks. Application examples can be found in particular in the area of production machinery, construction and agricultural equipment as well as commercial vehicles.

BIMETAL BEARINGS SLEEVE BUSHINGS
  1. ▊ metal matrix self-lubricating bearings

With high-strength copper alloy as the substrate, holes are distributed in the working face in proportion to the working conditions, and solid lubricant is filled in. High-strength copper alloy provides high bearing capacity while solid lubricant can form low friction pairs.

    • Total Self-Lubricating: No oil or grease required
The self-lubricating features allow bearings to be used where oiling is difficult, expensive to implement, and where grease/oil cannot be used. Excellent lubrication is achieved even under high loads at low speeds.
    • Excellent Wear Resistance:

Excellent wear resistance is achieved under severe working conditions, such as heavy load, low velocity, reciprocating, oscillating and intermittent motions where the formation of oil film is difficult.

    • Low Coefficient of Friction: 0.04 to 0.2 typical:

Self-lubrication with specially embedded solid lubricants reduces friction.

    • Wide Operating Temperature Ranges: -415° ° to 1,100° °F

Superior performance is exhibited under high and low temperature conditions.

    • Corrosion and Chemical Resistance:

Performance is not affected by water and caustic chemicals.

    • Designed to Exceed Your Requirements:

High precision products with close tolerances.

    • Cost Competitive:

Maintenance, replacement, and end-item downtime cost reduced due to the exceptional service life compared to similar self-lubricating products.
