Every industry has its own preference for a bearing type, for example sliding bearings, and every application in turn has its preference for specific variants such as a POM sliding bearing. POM sliding bearings were developed for lubricated applications and consist of three layers: a steel mantle and a sintered bronze layer impregnated and overlaid with polyacetal (POM) bearing material. The steel mantle provides the mechanical strength while the sintered bronze layer ensures a solid bond between the steel mantle and the running layer. POM sliding bearings were developed for applications with grease lubrication and the running surface is generally provided with a pattern of lubrication indentations that serve as reservoirs for the grease.

Viiplus POM composite strips have pockets in the sliding surface , which serve as grease reservoirs and should be filled with grease prior to installation. This makes these strips suitable for applications that require minimal maintenance under difficult operating conditions, for example in contaminated environments where lubricant cannot be supplied continuously or frequently. Despite of their compact design, POM composite strips can accommodate heavy loads and are less sensitive to misalignment. They are suitable for slow rotational or oscillating movements.
POM composite strips consists of a sheet steel backing on which a 0,2 to 0,4 mm thick layer of tin/bronze is sintered. The principal characteristic of these strips is their relatively thick (0,3 mm) covering layer of acetal resin (POM – polyoxymethylene) with additives. This covering layer has pockets to retain grease and is firmly attached to the sintered tin/bronze layer .
The thickness of the covering layer makes these strips less sensitive to misalignment and the edge loading associated with that misalignment.
POM bearings are especially suited to severe operating conditions where frequent maintenance is not possible. Common applications are:

We recommend lubricating POM bearings with grease. The grease must contain an antioxidant for environments with temperatures over 50°C. Greases containing EP additives or significant amounts of graphite or MoS2 are not generally recommended.
Lubricating with oil is only advisable with applications in which the oil temperature does not exceed 70°C.
